1. What is Coaches’ Tool Chest (CTC)?
CTC is a web based certification program fully approved in the State of Ohio by the Ohio Department of Health (ODH), the Ohio Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services and the Ohio Department of Education (ODE) to provide athletic coaches with one location to complete all athletic coaching certification requirements including First Aid, CPR, Sudden Cardiac / Lindsay’s Law, Coaching Fundamentals, PBIS training and Mental Health Training.
2. Why are over 500 school districts in the State of Ohio using CTC?
CTC provides a number of benefits but there are major things it for coach certifcation:
- It saves time
- One single platform for all coaches’ certificates
- No more tracking of staggered expiration dates for the athletic department
- Quality, updated professional development for coaches
3. What does CTC certify me for?
CTC has been approved by ODH and ODE to fully certify a coach in the State of Ohio when completed annually, so long as the coach maintains a valid Pupil Activity Permit (PAP).
4. How long does CTC certification take?
For most coaches, it will take approximately two hours. The course can be stopped and restarted as needed.
5. How long does certification last?
The certification is good from the time of completion until June 30th of the school year for which the certification was completed. The platform rolls over to the following year on April 1st (ex. April 1, 2024 the course is good through June 30, 2025).
6. What does CTC NOT complete me for?
- Coaches must maintain a valid Pupil Activity Permit (PAP).
- Coaches must maintain valid fingerprinting and background check with the district.
7. Do I still need to apply/renew my Pupil Activity Permit (PAP)?
Yes, so long as you have a current CTC certification, you have completed the required training to renew your PAP or apply for your initial PAP
8. Do I still need to get fingerprinted and background checked?
Yes, coaches must still get fingerprinted and background checked when required to order to obtain a Pupil Activity Permit (PAP)
9. Do I still have to get the annual Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) certification?
CTC meets the SCA requirement so there is no need to navigate the ODE LMS system anymore. When you complete your annual CTC training, you have met the SCA requirement.
